Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology
Before studying at the ICT Graduate School, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Professional Accounting. I was finishing my accounting degree and self-teaching programming when I applied for the Postgraduate Certificate in IT (PG Cert). I thought that software development would be a great fit for me since I enjoy building things and solving problems. I decided to pursue the PG Cert to get my foot in the door.
What I enjoyed most about the programme was that it was structured around hands-on practice. We also had the opportunity to build full-stack projects end to end. This was valuable because it helped us prepare for industry and a chance to create some cool things to showcase our skills.
After completing the qualification, I interned with Qrious. I helped them migrate a legacy testing framework to the Azure cloud and built a React dashboard. I was very proud of this project. I now work at ASB, building .Net Core services that deploy in containers and connect with Kafka. I enjoy working with these modern technologies and getting to solve technical problems every day.
If you’re planning to do the PG Cert, the best thing you can do is take every opportunity to practice writing code. Hands-on experience is the most valuable learning tool for programming!
