Meet Mark
Mark Mo
Master of Information Technology
Mark Mo had recently completed a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in China, when he decided that he wanted to move into a career in IT.
“I did not have a related degree in coding, so a Master of Information Technology (MInfoTech) with the ICT Graduate School was my best choice. For me, the best part of the programme is that it doesn’t require any computer science or coding background.
What is more, the practical internship included in this degree was attractive for me. I wanted to find a job in New Zealand and local experience is very significant, so the internship is very helpful for employment.”
Throughout the programme, Mark was supported by an industry mentor:
“My mentor Amelia supported me a lot. She helped check my CV, gave tips on how to increase my employability, and found interview opportunities through her connections in the IT sector.”
For his internship, Mark secured an internship with local Auckland company DS Consulting. Director of DS Consulting, Chris Da Silva said:
“Our company is a boutique IT consulting company specialising in supporting not for profit organisations and SMEs. Mark was brought in partnership with Dicker Data to work on developing a CRM solution to address some of the data quality issues that our faith-based not for profits were facing. Within 10 weeks we were able to gather requirements, design, build, test, and migrate data records into a fit for purpose CRM based on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform.
Our objective at the end of the program was to have a proof of concept. Not only did we achieve this, we were able to go live with the system for one of our clients. Mark has shown a high level of competence with his technical skills and was an integral part of the success meeting the objectives of the project.”
Mark is confident about his future: “The MInfoTech is an awesome programme for those who want to transfer their career to IT and want to find an IT job in New Zealand. I have just signed a contract with DS Consulting as an IT Business Analyst after my internship. My goal is to stay in New Zealand and work in the IT field in Auckland.”
